Hey, I installed your plug-in, and I think it’s GREAT! I also started a Yahoo group so that fans of Tom Green can notify each other when one of them sees that he is broadcasting live. Some of the popular Tom Green Deputies are on the list. The more people we get, the better chance someone will see when Tom goes live and notifies the group, but if there was some way to make your plug-in send an email when Tom goes live, then the whole group could be automatically notified. I have my cell phone’s email subscribed to the group, so my phone beeps when Tom goes live. Can you make the plug-in so that it sends an email when Tom goes on live? The Yahoo group called TomGreenIsLive is here:

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

    Hi Eric,
    great you like it !
I’m thinking about your idea although with this plugin i dont see a great chance of realizing it. One would have to take another way, i guess , think of it like this 300 guys run the plugin and instantly send 300 mails to the group , let alone the technical problems of how to send emails via the webbrowser , one would have to use a) a local mail client and tell the plug in all the configuration or b) use a webservice of some kind.
The notification shouldn’t come from “us” clients , the users to the group , but from one server , that would track Toms website and send one email to the group.
The easiest way of course , would be to ask TomGreen.com to send one email to that group or maybe connect that issue with an newsletter thingy which they would send out.
I dont have a real server/vserver at hand right now only this limited website , although im able to run scripts on it. Maybe, if you like the idea go ask around that newsletter idea at tomgreen.com and i will do some calcualting and if it turns out to be okay from the bandwidth side i could run that plugin in a modified version on my site and notifiy the yahoo group from this webserver directly. One of those will do the trick i guess !
    Ill keep you updated.

    Steffen

Just wanted to say that this plugin is still working great. It’s been so long since Tom went live, I had forgotten that I still had this plugin installed, but I was just sitting here a little while ago when a message popped up on my screen that “Tom Green Is About To Go Live!” I’m watching Tom live right now, thanks to your plugin.

I also found a way to make your plugin send an email. I wrote a script in Auto-It that watches for all of the windows that are open, and if a window exists that matches the one from your plugin, then the script sends an email using a third-party command-line email sender. Works great!

Thanks again for your work. Are you still a Tom Green fan?

Me again… I just installed Firefox 3.5, and I was disappointed to see that the TomGreenLive plugin is not compatible. It appears as though you’ve stopped development of this plugin, but is there any easy way to make it work in Firefox 3.5? I love this plugin, and now I’m going to miss so much Tom Green. Please let me know if you have any ideas, or if you plan to release a new version. Thanks so much.

Hi, I was planning to make a complete new addon that is far better then this right know but I didn’t start yet.
But for now i should just update TomGreenLive to make it compatible to FF3.5 for some reason it is not working , upping the verison number is not enough.
I’m working on it this weekend !

  6. Hey,

How did you go about getting the data that controls the “On Air” thing? Is there an API out there or something? I’m looking to integrate something similar on my Tom Green Fansite at TomGreenFans.com.

    Thanks in advance,

    Lewis
